Project Goal:
To make it easier for people in Salem, NJ, to get healthy, affordable food.
Project Description
The City of Salem received a Food Security Planning Grant from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. This grant will help us study the best way to bring a supermarket, grocery store, farmers market, or another type of food store to 25 New Market Street.
The project has two main goals:
- Find the best way to bring affordable, healthy food to all Salem residents.
- Recommend ways to revitalize the underused property at 25 New Market Street to benefit the community.
This study includes four key steps:
- Market Analysis – Researching what type of food store would be most successful in Salem.
- Site Evaluation – Checking the property at 25 New Market Street to find any problems and ways to fix them.
- Community Engagement – Getting input from residents to help shape the project.
- Site Development Plan & Recommendations – Creating a plan to make the site ready for investment and identifying any challenges.
