About Project
Passaic County, in collaboration with key partners including Grace Chapel Baptist Church, United Way of Passaic County, Passaic County Habitat for Humanity, St. Joseph’s Health, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, and the City of Paterson, NJ, is embarking on an initiative to enhance food security in the First Ward of Paterson, a designated Food Desert Community (FDC). This project, fueled by the Food Security Planning Grant from the NJ Economic Development Authority, involves a comprehensive market analysis and development plan for transforming approximately 40,000 square feet of under-utilized parking lots into a potential site for a supermarket, grocery store, or farmers market.
Project Goal
The ultimate goal is to attract a food establishment to the site, offering a wide range of food products including fresh produce, meats, fish, poultry, and a variety of canned and frozen foods. This project is a strategic step towards addressing the food accessibility challenges in the First Ward and driving positive community development.
