Dwight Street & Ocean Avenue Project

Since 2009, BRS has supported the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency with the Dwight and Ocean redevelopment project.
History

A series of parcels located at the southwest corner of Dwight Street and Ocean Avenue in
Jersey City are slated for redevelopment as affordable housing with commercial space on
the first floor. Due to the former uses of these lots and the presence of historic fill in the
area, the lots are known to be contaminated and require remediation redevelopment can
move forward. The sites were formerly used for activities a gas station, a dry cleaner, and
residential homes.

Since 2009, BRS has supported the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency with the Dwight
and Ocean redevelopment project.

BRS Role
  • Oversight on several rounds of investigation
  • Untangling contractual and procurement delays related to a prior site consultant
  • Secured $600,000 in US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield
    Cleanup Grants as well as nearly $375,000 in state Hazardous Discharge Site
    Remediation Funding for the project.
  • BRS has also managed the project’s budget and has coordinated on
    implementation of the site’s demolition and remedial action.
