BROWNFIELD INCENTIVE GRANT (BIG) PROGRAM

BRS, Inc. is working with the New York City Economic Development Corporation to manage a voluntary brownfields cleanup program.
History

The City of New York established the first municipal brownfields voluntary cleanup program in the country. As a companion piece to their voluntary cleanup program, the City, with BRS, also established the Brownfield Incentive Grant (BIG) program to provide grant funding to those undertaking brownfields redevelopment projects in the city. Initially funded with over $11 million, the program has been consistently refunded. BRS serves as the program’s grant administrator.

BRS’s role:
  • Providing the day-to-day management of the grant program;
  • Managing the BIG program budget;
  • Preparing funding disbursement paperwork;
  • Vetting applications and making recommendations for grant awards;
  • Conducting technical reviews of documents submitted by applicants; and
  • Establishing and maintaining the BIG grant portal, a massive online project tracking and management system.

More information on BIG regulations, grant types, awards, requirements, qualified vendor information, and applications can be found at: www.nyc.gov/BIG . Additional information on the Qualified Vendor Program can be found at www.brsinc.com, by clicking on the NYC BIG tab.
