Petty's Run Stream Restoration Project

BRS, Inc. worked to transform a neglected urban stream into a natural stormwater management mechanism.
History

BRS assisted the City of Trenton with its efforts to turn a blighted and severely degraded urban stream segment adjacent to a new housing development into a public amenity that would provide stormwater retention, flood storage capacity, water quality improvements, and open space habitat. The project resulted in the environmental restoration of a 2.5-acre site with habitat creation and wetland enhancement to recreate a natural riparian buffer zone.

BRS’s role:
  • Served as the owner’s representative on behalf of the City of Trenton;
  • Worked with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mercer County, Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), and other cross-jurisdictional regulatory agencies to secure permits and necessary approvals;
  • Secured over $1.5 million in project funding;
  • Managed the project design; and
  • Provided oversight of the project’s construction and environmental work.
