SUSTAINABILITY ELEMENT OF THE BAYFRONT REDEVELOPMENT PLAN

While a Redevelopment Area covering the new development known as Bayfront has been established, there is a need to amend the existing plan to incorporate sustainability elements and update it to conform to the current vision of the site. BRS is currently working with JCRA and the City of Jersey City on the development of sustainable design guidelines for the Bayfront I Redevelopment Area.

BRS, Inc. worked with EPA’s Office of Community Revitalization using the Regional Resilience Toolkit through the Building Blocks Program in four projects to help multiple jurisdictions come together to identify shared natural disaster risks and a common action plan for the region.

Adaptive Reuse Planning: What's Old Is New Again

What do you do with a site and its structures after it is no longer needed for its original purpose, the one for which it was designed and built? How does an abandoned or not actively functioning site affect the well-being of the surrounding neighborhoods? Can it serve a new purpose? What conditions need to be there and what needs to happen to make recycling a site a more attractive option for a developer than demolition or new developments outside the community? The NYC Brownfield Incentive Grant Program seeks to spur the cleanup and redevelopment of brownfields in New York City. It offers grants to property owners and developers from the earliest stages of information gathering and preliminary assessment through environmental assessment and cleanup.
